Piece Of Cake

It seems that every few years or so, a large slew of friends gets a brush with fame. Three years ago my friend Zozo got invited to a closed audition with P!nk. One of only 20 North American Girls, and the only one from Canada. Another friend who designs leather accessories was getting recognized nationally and yet another friend started getting major movie deals.

Well, it’s that time again. As you read last week, my friend Leela was nominated for, AND WON, a Juno. Zozo's new CD, 'Essence of Life', is taking off. And my friend The Halfaneese has become a YouTube Star.

You see, The Halfaneese was quite a pastry chef. He created the most beautiful cookies and cakes that you could imagine, not to mention a long list of other delectable’s. Two and a half years ago he filmed a pilot for his own TV show, 'Piece of Cake', and things were looking up. The show was sent to a major network, but sadly, there was a ‘changing of the guards’ of sorts… one executive went out, one came in… and The Halfaneesees pilot was placed on a shelf.

Well, due to the creation of YouTube, buzz has been starting all over. The producers of the show have put it up for the world to see and within hours people all over the world were blogging about it… not to mention the chit chat about his whole portfolio. And now it’s my turn…

Here is a link to the first quarter of the pilot episode where The Halfaneese consults a man about a cake he is going to create for a surprise party. HE MAKES MANN’S GRAUMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE!!!! OUT OF CAKE!!!! It’s simply amazing.

I had the privilege of getting my dear one to make a cake for my birthday. Those of you who have seen ‘Steel Magnolias’ will catch the reference and joke, those of you who have not seen it… go watch it and look at these pictures again.

“Is Armadilla’s all you make?”

“Oh no. I can make all kinds of animals… Except snakes; I don’t have the counter space.”

“It looks like an autopsy.

Anyway… when you have twenty spare minutes, watch the pilot. It is so worth it. You will be amazed at what this guy can do. Also, don’t forget to check out his portfolio… Armand The Armadilla is featured! And Her Royal Pinkness's Fluvlog shoes. And that Barbie cake… and the Little Abner cake… and the Star Wars Cookie.

It’s all too much. I’m getting a cavity just thinking about it.

PS: Don't forget to watch all four segments of the pilot in order.

PPS: Forward the link on to everyone you know... the more buzz the show gets, the more likely something might happen with it.

Oh man, did I miss your birthday?!

I don't know what's better, having videos to watch about cake, or watching you make out with an armadillo.

No no no, that was taken at my birthday in October 2005. You did however miss it, but it wasn't recent.
You can tell by the fact that I am clean shaven in the photo, and have not had a razor to my face in over a year.

I gained 5pounds just looking at the portfolio! (you know my blog picture is a Klimt, so anyone who makes a Klimt cake is near and dear to my heart!)

Damn, now I want chocolate!

I will try not to hate you because you look better in pink than I do...

happy very belated birthday....

I have to agree with a lot of what you said about Il Divo last year. Not that they didn't turn my knees to glue, but it was tres fromage. The blinding light was still there, but the banter was kept to a minimum. And I swear the women in Halifax have no clue how to dress up for something. They make more effort going for groceries. But the boys were lovely, certainly given me a few new fantasies!

Hello LM,

You really ate that masterpiece? Blair Fukumura is genius, I probably looked at EVERY image of "Bleeding Armadillo" cakes that exists on the web (and there are MANY). You got the MOST handsome one by far!

Wow. I want a Li'l Abner cake too (actually a Shmoo cake, which shouldn't be too challenging but would look quite sweet). You know Shmoos? They make your wishes come true. You can eat them!

Best to you and thank you for blogging plus great pictures!

yrs truly,
TL
